Unable to build on previously built structures
If you place a tribe and build on old structures, you're unable to build on them

As the title says, you are unable to build on top of previous player built structures, even if they exist within your tribe, and even if they are your own. Even if you were to try say, assign a use to a building, it will show the message "You are not in this tribe!", which I think is related to being unable to build on top of old structures. The only way I've seen to fix this is to dismantle all pieces entirely and put them back together again, which will put them under your ownership, which still affects your own buildings that you previously built.

As far as I can see, the way to recreate this is to create a tribe, build something like trusses, floors, or a building that can be assigned a use. Then remove that tribe totem from the tribe, and replace a new one within. You shouldn't be able to use any of those structures anymore for building on top of, or assigning use, even if you own it.

Not a bug as such and it's been like this for a long time.

Think it has something to do with each totem having a unique ID, with any buildings created inside it's area being tied to that ID.

It basically means you can't really take over someone elses abandoned base, as you don't own any of it, and can't build on top of it.

I see. Thanks for the info, I hadn't realized it was like that, as I hadn't tried to do something like that until recently.

I learned about it the hard way a few years back, on War I used to have a base down south right next to the mist, decided to move that character to my main base in 904. Couple of years later I decided to move everybody down to the old base, had to dismantle and rebuild everything I had left there before I could build on any of it. Even had to get a guides help to move my totem, that way I could dismantle the 8x8 floor I had placed it on.

Late response here, but as I understood this was resolved in game. Yes, once you abandon a tribe, the structures lose their tribe affiliation. When you place a new tribe at the same location, it does not reclaim the structures.

I may change this in the future but it would be complicated.

Thanks!
