Thread: Woodcraft ?

    Woodcraft ?

The update that just went up was talking about woodcraft, in the next update. I have been working on the road for about 3 months and have missed a lot. Anyone care to explain woodcraft? Thanks!

    Re:Woodcraft ?

We don't know much about woodcraft yet, but I think thing the shortage of wood handles will be taken care of.

Many things in Prelude will be about discovery by the players.

Basic woodcraft will supply parts for tools, totem poles, weapons, furniture and construction. Basically logs will be more useful now.

The next step will be to turn on construction and the few furniture recipes.

Is there anything you could tell us about construction and how it will work? Will it be just like crafting, only with buildings or do you have anything more unique in mind?

    Construction will work as follows:

You place a construction project on the ground and it shows a 'ghost' image of what you are building. You can right click to open a 3 menus.

    1) Position menu. This is used to move and rotate your ghost project into position until you're ready to construct it.

    2) Construct menu. This shows a list of materials and tools required and has the construct button.

    3) Open menu. This works like a container. Materials used in the project are placed here and stored until you are ready. Once the container is filled with all the proper materials you can construct the project.

The menus are not finished and I might combine 2 and 3.

In the future, some projects will require more than one player to construct.

Will Someone be able to steal the supplies you put into the building plan once you have placed them in there? Will others (other tribes or independents) be able to see the ghost image of your structure? Thanks!!

    Re:Woodcraft ?

It would be good if other players could see the requirements, and the contents. Be able to add to but not take out any of the items. Thus being able to help with the collection of required materials, but not be able to be stolen.

On that note, once a project is complete can someone "deconstruct" your project and take the materials you used to build it? What if as the tribe grows and plans change, can you move a already constructed building? Do you have to tear it down, move it to a new location and build it again?

    In general, no.

    The current plan is this:
other players could see the requirements, and the contents. Be able to add to but not take out any of the items.
However, I am thinking about project permissions. An open project would allow tribe mates to take out items. A closed project could allow tribe mates to take out items, but they will be marked as stealing.

For now though, projects will be safe.

Will others (other tribes or independents) be able to see the ghost image of your structure? Thanks!!
Yes. Though I plan to replace this so that only you can see the ghost project and other players will see a staked out construction outline. We'll see.

In the future, yes, but only with the proper permissions. Random players will not be able to come along and rip down your building unless it's marked as abandoned (for example if you delete your player).
