    Relic of a lost age

I was a bit bored over the last few days and in anticipation of the opening of Xyson, I started looking up maps old of the Tahoe region. Then I got the idea, what if I had a map that was passed down from pre-collapse times, worn but usable.

So I used an old Chamber of Commerce map, cleaned it up, replaced the labels, then aged/damaged it, using photoshop. The Idea was to produce a document with an implied history.

It's not perfect, but this is what I came up with:

    Tahoe Area Map with Labels

    Tahoe Area Map without Labels

These maps are a bit large, almost 5 mb in size.

I thought I would share my work, enjoy!

I agree, but I believe the initial starting area is just the Tahoe Basin, which is covered by most of this map. I'm looking at other maps for a broader area. This map does cover a large amount of space, considering the lake by itself is 12 miles wide and 22 miles long.

Seems to me that unless you want to do a hell of a lot of walking, boat building will be a necessary skill.

I asked a question about that several weeks ago. I'm assuming that a big portion of the lake has been omitted to make more land mass around the edges. No boats yet = no need to fill in the middle of the lake. lol I'd like to see someone swim across Lake Tahoe. :side:

Wonder if the mist will cover any of the lake making it inaccessible.

    Re:Relic of a lost age

I asked the question a little while ago through the FAQ.

    Hello Kitsume,

It is a scaled down version of the area. The starting map is the Tahoe Basin. It will expand over time to include past Reno in the east and to near Placerville in the west.

    Thanks,

    FAQ QUESTION:
Hi, Question about the map. Is it 1 to 1 scale to the region or is the scale adjusted? Earlier notes state that it is the Lake Tahoe region, is this the entire Tahoe Basin? I've spent quite a bit of time in the Tahoe region, mostly west shore. 120 sq Km seems small if it is the whole region and if the scale is 1 to 1. Thanks

Here is a map of the Tahoe Basin/Watershed. I expect the southern most part is not included, but we will see once we gain access.

    Lake Tahoe Basin/Watershed

I've spent quite a few summers and winters at Lake Tahoe, mainly on the west shore.

A little geography. There are 3 town areas around the lake, South Lake Tahoe/Stateline, Incline Village and Tahoe City. There are several small villages all around the lake shore. To the east is Carson City & Virginia City, home of the Comstock Silver Lode. Northeast is Reno, the largest city in the area. To the northwest is the town of Truckee. West and south of the basin is pretty much mountainous wilderness with a few small settlements.
