I'm wondering if any thought has been given to a battleground type scenario or “Mini Games” for Xsyon? I notice we have a permission to "Declare War" or something to that effect already on our totems.
I think this could work for Xsyon because;
- I still don't see the attraction of contested totems. I'm sure there is much I don't know going on behind the scene, so I am equally sure I'm missing much. But I don't see myself attacking other tribe contested areas just to get to a scrap pile that I can find almost anywhere. Currently there is no need and even if the game becomes well populated there will be trading etc and not much need to attack and claim resources other than just to do it? Again I'm probably missing something.
- Battlegrounds have been used with some success in many games like WOW, AOC etc. These are essentially games within a game. So for the most part they should not adversely effect the rest of the game, people can participate if they wish or not, and this could add to the contested totem theme.
Examples would be a variety of mini battle games like “Capture the flag” or in this case “Capture the Totem” by destroying the Totem with axes or fire etc. The Totem could have a life bar as well. Or Elimination (last man standing). It could be a two tribe battle or multiple tribe battle. It could be implemented through a battleground window or interface that would allow any tribe to initiate or request a War. They could set the type of battle, a time limit (1hour, 4hours, 24 hours, who knows), a specific number of participants or open battle etc. Then another tribe could accept that battle, or except with conditions like limit number of participants because their tribe is smaller. When both tribes "accept" the battle begins. Of course this would be a gray area since the contested area would still be open to other tribe attacks while the battle is going on. Perhaps a lock out of some type could be used during battles (or not, could make politics interesting). Like other battlegrounds you would need to keep some defenders on your tribe and send out some warriors to attack the other tribe. If the tribe is small, they could request “Mercenaries” In this case anyone from any tribe could join the que through the battleground interface and when enough people are in the que they would then fight under that tribes banner. This would allow small tribes to participate and receive battleground points as well.
This type of mini game could even allow the non pvp crowd to participate in some ways without actually doing battle. The craft people could stay in camp making supplies like bricks etc for repairing the walls and gates etc. They could even be runners with baskets of bricks. If they get attacked, drop the basket and run back to the safe zone. Just remember to travel light for fast flight
I understand Xsyon's original intent to be a player driven game, and a battleground game would still fall in that category with the exception of a possible reward system. I think there needs to be more rewards than what is currently in game. Again I sight other games were a redeemable point system is used for unique rewards. This would require either some npc's in few locations around the world who would sell battleground rewards, or a simpler method would be to purchase the items through a store tab on your tribe totem. The rewards don't have to be over the top superior to player made items, they just need to be unique and something people will REALLY want. There could be unique armor and weapons, as well there could be items for the non pvp craft people and builders. There could be unique items for villages and towns such as furniture, banners, statues, or recipes to make these items and of course things like unique mounts or pets.
Anyway, could battlegrounds or mini games work for Xsyon? Good idea or no?
