How do I dismiss a pet?

I just trained a pit bull to try it out before going for the big stuff. Trouble is now that I have a pet I can't tame another. Is there a way to dismiss your pet so you can tame another one?

I'm expecting it to be something obvious that I am just missing but maybe whatever you tame is yours for life.

pet ui, icon bottom right corner of the screen, option called Release
