I'm in South Korea and I get around 187 ping, which I don't think is bad. My fps looks pretty choppy, but I didn't check what it is. Any advice on that?

I have an nvidia ge force 8600 gt video card, if it matters.

Thanks.

The 8600gt was a budget card at its release, and is now around 4 years old. Id expect some choppiness with it to be honest, your long overdue on an upgrade.

I've been looking for an excuse to get an upgrade, so I guess it's time. Thanks.
Any recommendations?

Hmm well the game doesn't need anything super amazing from my short game time experiences, my little netbook with an ION 2 gpu runs the game pretty smoothly it seems.

Just about any card with dx 10 capabilities would be good enough probably, as far as more long term upgrades you'd want to go with one that supports dx 11 I would think, however which you pick is up to you and your budget. I personally love my radeon 4890...

Thank you. I think something in the 200-300 USD range should be enough, then.

Here, I just upgraded my old PC for 300 dollars. This might help ya if your PC is 4+ years old.
:D

I ordered this on 2/9/2011

This is assuming you have your old ATX case, DVD drive and hard drive to use:

A-DATA Gaming Series 4GB DDR3 1600 $44.99
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820211409

Diablotek PHD Series 550W Power Supply $39.99
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817822003

DISCOUNT FOR POWER SUPPLY + MEMORY COMBO -$12.00

ASRock M3A770DE Motherboard $59.99
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157176

SAPPHIRE Radeon HD 5570 1GB 128-bit DDR3 $74.99
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102874

AMD Athlon II X3 455 Rana 3.3GHz Socket AM3 95W Triple-Core Desktop Processor $88.99
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103911

DISCOUNT FOR VID CARD + CPU COMBO -$15.00

COOLER MASTER 80mm Long life sleeve bearing CPU Cooler $14.99
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835103075

Subtotal $296.94
Tax $0.00
UPS 3 DAYS $13.16
Order Total $310.10

Easy core unlock on the CPU, with the ASRock motherboard, which now turns it into a Phenom II x4. Two clicks on the BIOS, and it's running 4-cores at 3.78, and scores a 7.4 on the Experience Index. For this price, that's amazing - the processor becomes a black edition Deneb (w/out the L3 cache). The i7 920 is a 7.4 stock and it is WAY more costly.....do the math.....

Thanks toddesloan.
I'm going to go to the local computer guy and the electronics market in Seoul today. I've been avoiding upgrading my computer because I will need to haggle and shop using Korean (not my native language LOL). It will be my first try. Wish me luck.

I'm doing it all for Xsyon, so however this game turns out, at least it's inspiring me to take on new challenges in RL.

Cheers.

I agree. Any game that motivates me to upgrade hardware is a keeper. :D

So far I am REALLY enjoying the game. It's about as sandbox as I have played. And I have played them all.
hehe

Good luck in the market!

whatever you do make sure your power supply is enough wattage to power youur new vid card. a lot of the stock supplies that come with factory built computers will just barely power the card, but there will be performance loss. spend the extra 80-100 bucks and grab a new psu.
