View Full Version : To people considering buying

First off, this is just my views from playing and reading these forums.

I'll start off by saying this game has great potential, I love old school UO, the exploration, the danger etc, Xsyon captures that from the moment you log in.

The gfx are rather outdated, but for a lot of old schoolers that's not so important. The UI is clunky, buggy and quite frankly naff.

The whole crafting system is awesome, from the scavenging to the actual finished product is pretty unique in today's glut of buy this click that mmorp crafting clones.

I cannot comment on combat, as I believe animal spawns are turned off ATM, and I've yet to engage in pvp.

This brings me to my final point, content......with mere days to go until release I'm shocked at the state of the game tbh, apparently a lot of features are disabled right now, but a look through the forums shows no real Dev updates for 2-3 months.

Bottom line, if I hadn't already paid my money, I'd be waiting a few months to make sure the game doesn't go the way of a few other mmorps and fold after taking folks money.

This games potential will only be realised if the Devs work on it, and communicate on a regular basis about the state of the game and future updates.

I'm not too big to admit I missed something :)

Thanks for pointing that out, the other points remain tho, and I'm sure I read somewhere that animals were turned on again, yet I've still to see one, even a bunny.

Hopefully come launch there will be a huge post on what is still to be switched on/implemented and some kind of timescale for such.

Oh and a better manual :p

example....What is the difference between the different tools of the same type, Pioneer's, Forager's, Trapper's etc. I'm guessing quality or durability or something, but there's no way to tell. Little things like this need to be addressed imho, then a great game I'm sure this will be.

the animals are on.. u just have to find them .... u know if u stay in 1 place scavenging the animals w'ont come to you by thereselves.
the durability is off for now coz of testing what cousing the lags.. but they got to the point that Terraforming did that..
and just remmber its just a prelude so ... every body knows that at this time the bugs are revealing.

I was totally expecting this kind of thing when i pre-ordered as i know they are an indie company with not much cash.. but for the price you cant go wrong.. in the UK it basically cost me £25 for the pre-order, i get to test now adn then on release i also get 2 months free.. and to be totally honest this game is in a better state than MO was and they had a shit load more money and actually brought a 3rd party engine and did not make their own.. plus MO was silly money no idea why i pre-ordered that lol..

But for the price of this i was happy to take the risk and i was suprised at how wel lthe game plays when there is no lag.. game dont look amazing sure but its not the worse looknig game out there..

I won’t purchase a game based on potential, every game has or had it. I investigate the current features and base my opinion on that.

Xsyon in its current state will keep me busy for a few months. I am hopeful new features will be introduced justifying my subscription but potential doesn’t earn my money.

I agree with the OP. Dont spend money yet.

It all starts with server performance, which has been good as of late in the beta (i would call this alpha version, but whatever).

Unfortunately for those of us who think this game could kick some face, it isnt doing that right now.

The dev team says one thing one day, changes it the next, then changes that again the third day. Honestly, im sure they will still change their minds even though this game is *cough*cough* supposed to be launched in a week.

Oh yea, combat is now being disabled? Screw it, the current system is horrible anyways but commmmomonnnnnn. Indy dev team.

Ill Come back in a few months when there is a trial and some combat systems and some durability and some cooking and some animals and some more land and some more gankers.

I have not played the game yet just paid for it, but I can say I have played a game called wurmonline for 4 years and no game even came close to it this is the first game I have seen with the same sort of crafting system and terraforming, so I don't mind spending cash if it gives the devs money and a reason to work on the game harder if they inprove the game a lot am sure I will like it.

I like the honest views xaradt, even if you did only play for what looks like a couple hours ;p and thx for posting in the forum that potential future buyers can reply to. As stated I'm probably gonna wait until the game is up and running fully and has a free trial so I can test it out and read some reviews from a point of view that isn't just talking potential, which most games had and all of them lost heh.
But it good to have people supporting what they believe can do well even from what I've heard I think this game can do good. But with what happened with MO I'm not jumping into anything.

They are charging $40 initially and $15/month already???
Think I'll wait until the game is ready for release in 1-2 yrs before I pay for it. gg :)

When they turn Terraforming back on (could be Saturday), purchase the game based on that. If it works (does not bring down the server due to 2k people holding shovels in their hands), then buy the game. If it fails, then wait. Because without Terraforming, this game is not worth 15 a month.

That's about as good and honest of an answer as you will get.

As Tredo said, If you like sandbox MMO's than it's totally worth it.

The game is going into the Prelude and probably is a benefit to start sooner rather than later as it will develop in stages.

As for the $40 price, it gives you 2 months free. So that's $30 worth of game time you don't pay for.

this is honestly a pretty decent launch. I've seen much worse by major developers.

I totally agree. The developers have done a good job testing the game and not rushing it for release.

Not really any major bugs, the sever can get a little laggy - but nothing too bad. I think that once we get past launch, the server will be addressed.

Or technically, you bought the game for $10.00 and paid 2 months of sub ahead. Either way.. pretty good deal.

Yeah, works either way you look at it.

I was saying it that way as usually you don't buy a newly released game for $10.
