View Full Version : FPS fix? What fps fix?

My framerate has not changed since this last update - stuck around 12-16 (FRAPS).

I am running an Athlon X2 2.8 Ghz with 3 GB RAM and an NVidia GeForce 9400 GT.

What ever I do to the video option my framerate hardly varies, dropping to about 8 fps at it lowest.

Congrats to the people that have seen an improvement (and the dev team for fixing it for them :)), but can they show me some love now....:P

EDIT: Just altered the texture filter and boosted fps to 18-20 fps. Is that good enough?

I get constantly 30-40 fps now with all settings on high and quite far settings on detail distance.

Before i had 8 - 15 fps.

What distances do you use caaahl, and what system do you have?

1920 x 1080 res windowed

terrain 704 m
tree quality high
tree detail 400 m
gras distance 112 m

rest all "on" and shadows on "high"

my specs:
windows 7 64 bit
nvidia geforce 480 gtx
intel core duo E8400 (@ 3 ghz)
4 GB DDR 2 ram

With your video card I think its good enough.

with a 9400, Id suspect 12-20 is about the average you can get.
the 9400 was about as low end of the 9x00 range as you could get. combine that with the fact it was the lowest end nvidia card of 4 years ago.

so getting in that range is good for what you have.

turn everything down and turn AA on and set it to x8. Me and several other players have found this makes the fps rise (around 30 fps-70fps) boost. So it helps!

with a 9400 8x AA will KILL his framerate..the 8x00 and 9x00 series wasnt known for its AA preformance, more so on the low end of them.

Yeah, no idea how turning up AA would cause a boost. That would be a very weird bug, if anything.

Anyway... The 9400. Second number of Nvidia cards are the important ones. The lower the second number, the less performance you get.

Yeah, this thread should be renamed, "Nvidia, clarity in card quality? What clarity in card quality?

Is that one of those outdated garbage cards still being sold to computer manufacturers and passed along to unwitting customers?

I suspected as much dxwarlock...time to upgrade to a more modern low-end card then :P

Any recommendation for an upgrade in the <£75 bracket....

I ain't made of money!

How do you check fps?

Wouldn't the shadows being on high effect the FPS? I dunno, I turned that stuff off a week into playing.

As for checking FPS, I do not think there is an in game approach for this. (Atleast it hasn't been communicated). 3rd party apps can tell you what the FPS is for your game. I think the most common one used is FRAPS.

Ok just checking. I swore running fraps can lower your fps by 10+ so was checking if there was a built in FPS toggle I missed. Thanks.

If you are recording, yes, you will see a drop. But just have the program running and not recording will tell you your current FPS rate.

hmm around 75? hmm
Id say ATI/AMD a 5670, or nvidia, a 240.
both decent cards for the price, you wont run metro 2033 or crysis on extreme with them...but definitly will preform a lot better for you.

for "normal" games, yes.

for xsyon its a big improvement from 8 - 15 to 30 - 40 fps. ;)

HarHar... :) I have a similar system, but seeing higher frame rates. With your given settings/resolution I'm hard pressed to drop below 45FPS with 8X AA and VSync(60FPS). (Vsync off 50-100FPS@ your settings) Q9550@3.4/GTX470@725/8Gig

yeah, i got vxync on, too. When i am gathering stuff and not looking into the distance i get my 59 frames, too. gonna check tomorrow what i get without vsync.

What's odd is that FRAPS displays about 80-90 FPS, everything as high as possible, 1920 x 1080 -- yet randomly dips down to about 30 FPS for no apparent reason. Like I'll literally just be crafting away, and then it dips. Not sure if it's a programming issue or something on my side. Never noticed this in other games, and before I have a chance to move around and get a feel for the 30 FPS in Xsyon ( since every game performs a little differently from 30 to 60 FPS ), it's back up to 70-80.

Saw this with the ---

Phenom II X4 @ 3.8
4 GB RAM
5850 2GB Toxic Edition
Windows 7 Professional 64-bit

computer. I haven't had time to test it out on my high end set up yet. Does anyone else get those weird, random 'dips' in FPS?

Also, for the OP -- if you buy a new graphics card, be warned that you need to make sure if it's AGP or PCI-E, and also how much power you need to run it. If I'm not mistaken, the 9400 ran on a PCI-E slot.

I've noticed a huge difference finally playing on high settings and receiving 40-60 fps generally.

I've gone from 18-20 FPS on lowest possible settings to 40-50 with most settings maxed out.
