Wiki Flesh Out

Hello Everyone,

I wanted to acquire feedback from the community regarding the Xsyon Wiki. I asked in game and people seemed receptive, probably no reason not to be) to the idea of fleshing out in game screen shots of every item in game on the wiki.

Right now most items seem to have icon, with craft window, while useful doesn't really show full item in game in its full awesomeness.

What I need from you:

- Post whether or not you feel this would be beneficial
- Whether you are willing to help by taking screen shots yourself.
- If you can help by providing presence of the item in game. ( Wear it, spawn it, build it. )

I would like to make this a community project, not a solo venture for glory and fame. Besides I feel this will go much quicker if not doing it all myself.

Any replies, feedback, trolling, criticism, and fish are all welcome and appreciated!

I think its a great idea, the wiki needs some love for sure, it would help new and old players alike. I have no knowledge in wiki editing and as a newer player i don't have access to many items but I am all for revamping the wiki.

I would think that maybe some guides could help you with items and stuff for your screenshots if you were to ask them as it takes some of the load off of them answering questions when players could just look it up on the wiki for themselves. :)

Myself and the Guide team are looking to fully support a wiki.
However we see their are 2 current wiki's

Xsyon.wikia.com (http://xsyon.wikia.com/wiki/Xsyon_Wiki)

and

XsyonWiki.info (http://xsyonwiki.info/index.php?title=Main_Page)

So we are at a bit of a dilemma as to which one to support fully, without upsetting the other creator.

The other option we have is to create our own official wiki created by the Gudies, and assign accounts to players that want to contribute.

What does everyone think?

As neither one of these pages have been updated in the last 4 months (last updated in Nov 2011) i doubt you'd be stepping on anyones toes by supporting either one. However, i feel an official page created by members of the Xsyon team would get more support from the community than an unofficial one as the Guides/approved contributors could remove/add proven and accurate information rather than suppositions.

I know alot of work was put into those other sites and I appreciate the effort that the players put into them. However, it seems to be a massive challenge for the playerbase to assemble a complete and accurate wiki. I agree an official site would be welcomed and receive more support.

I agree please just create an official wiki for Xsyon. if possible and get it rolling. I am willing to help I am sure others would as well but Guide participation would be extremely progressive to the effort.

I vote for official site and I would be willing to contribute as well. I was going to do this anyways on the IS Site. I will do it on a official site if given the access.

I put some effort in the toolcrafting section of the http://xsyonwiki.info (and then stopped cause noone else seemed to be interested) and I am willing to redo some of the work, if a "offical" wiki project would be started. Some feature (for toolcrafting eg) would be nice that would answer the often question in global ... "what is XYZ for?" ... a wiki that could answer that would be just nice. ATM we bother MrDDT alot with those questions :)

I agree, an official site would probably be best. I put together the only fan site for Irth with thousands of items descriptions etc. Spent a couple years and a bazillion hours gathering information only to log into the game one day to find it was gone. I swore I would never do that again :p

I would however contribute what I could to a community effort like a wiki. :)

I am really glad this is getting the needed attention. Now that the community is expressing interest in the "Official Xsyon Wiki" from devs/guides. The ball is in their court until they get it up and running so they and the community can all contribute.

I would rather see a official wiki but I hope mediawiki is used than anything else as I can export and import pages.

The wikia page has 35 pages most of which are empty but the one I started has 205 currently. I have no problem with a official wiki and I hope I can export whatever is needed page wise or setup templates. I wish more people were interested in helping flesh out what I started as it has more than most I've seen but it's hard getting people to devote time to editing it. I've been really busy but I still have icons and images for each craft to upload I just need to find the time.

Would it be helpful, and feasible, to offer a monthly (or any appropriate period of time) reward in-game to the player(s) that contribute the most to an official wiki?

I just don't know what would drive more involvement to an official wiki as opposed to the one Zookeeper started and worked on... realistically. In essence, I'm suggesting employment of player community for intangible payment.
If it is difficult to ascertain value of contribution objectively, quantify it. X number of pictures uploaded equals reward Y, etc.

Just an idea to speed up development. Perhaps some will not like the notion of having something outside the game having an effect on material balance within the game, but with a little imagination I think it could be worked into the lore and fabric of the in-game world.

Roger that, wikis have always added so much to any game I've played and with the depth of xsyon, it's an awesome contender. Lookin' forward to it. Have a lot of league play in BF3 coming up but down the road, hopefully I'll have more time to get in and help out.

Not playing anymore, but with all the new additions and changes since release people may feel more comfortable coming back and being "with the curve" having the wiki to refer to. When I played minecraft for a few weeks that wiki was my #1 visited page on chrome, haha.

Guides, any news regarding the start of an official Wiki? There is nearly unanimous agreement for one. How soon can we hope to see one?

The feedback from this thread has led us to create an Official Wiki for Xsyon.
Once we have the basics done, we will announce it and hopefully have a button placed at the top of the site for ease of access.
