Xsyon Gets The Steam Greenlight!

Rating: 3 votes, 2.33 average.
Xsyon has passed the Steam Greenlight program and approved for a pending launch on Steam!

Xsyon will be one among the few sandbox games on Steam and we are looking forward to reaching a much wider audience. It will take a few months to prepare Xsyon for a Steam launch. A release date will be announced in the future.

Development plans are as follows:

- Farming: Characters plant, water, tend and harvest crops, gathering food to survive and enhance their existence.

- Cooking: Characters combine ingredients to create unique recipes, resulting in dishes that provide buffs and boosts.

- Terrain Reversion: Public land that has been terraformed then abandoned will revert to its original form, giving players a cleaner slate to construct and develop new towns.

- Multiple Servers: To accommodate an influx in population, Xsyon will exist on multiple servers, including a more friendly PvE server and a risk oriented PvP server.

In addition to these major features, we will continue to fix bugs, eliminate problems and balance current systems.

Thank you for all your support and votes!

I too have concerns about splitting the server. I understand you are expecting a population bump from Greenlight, but dividing the base population doesn't seem to be a good idea . Designating areas on the current for PVP/PVE would seem the safer bet (if that can be implemented). I have played games that incorporate both by having PVP to secure and defend a contested area but only high skilled PVE resourcers could enter to gather the rare goods.
There has been mention in this thread of PVP server being 'Nothing safe, Nothing Sacred' type of game play. I know this is an assumption, but I would not play on a server that has no safe -boundaries what-so-ever but I like a little PVP. Not die hard, but after 10 point stat grinding someone needs a pick to the head! Having Tribe lands unsafe to John Q public would be fruitless. Some Tribes have big areas but few players, to login and find the homes of players on hiatus looted would be discouraging to me as well as the players on leave from the game. That said, I am pretty confident I could find a way to glitch myself into any fortress built in game and I'm sure that tribe would be very dissatisfied that all their hard work building an epic keep didn't keep their tribe from being raided. But I'm digressing..
The point at hand: I appreciate all your effort, hard work, and I love this game, but that is a very hard rope to walk keeping everyone happy. If I may suggest some ideas batted around by myself and others.
A tutorial. So base players don't have to spend their time coaching all the new players (and I hope there is a shit ton of them!)
Content. Contested area with rare resources (or something to distract MrDDT ;P )should keep PVP focused in one or two areas and far away from the noobies unless they go there intentionally. Safe areas for the PVE focused.
Balanced economy. Please don't use the US govt. as an example!
I could go on but I'll save it for the suggestion thread... lol.

Thanks for the update and all your efforts!

Wilson brings up alot of good points I have to agree with the large majority of what he said. I also think making a pvp zone would be way better then a whole new server.

What ever happend to the ideas of expanding xsyon past lake tahoe? Not sure why we need a new server when we could just expand the already big map into a even larger one to add these new pvp, high risk, high reward zones.

Wow well said Wilson423. Like Greenspade says, open up new areas, have some for PVP open/contested areas and have some PVE areas where there is no PVP. Poof everyone is happy.

You could even do where you open up a new map area but far past the mist, allow new start points there and have it PVE only area. Maybe over time the mist will be removed and connect them.

You promised we would get 2 servers only when the server population would support it. I don't believe this is even remotely true. This server has few people on it, and will die.

I'm currently waiting for more information on what to expect from the future Steam launch. From what I gather so far, the game may require up to 4 servers to support the expected influx in population. When I have more solid data, I will post more details.

What I can say for certain now is:

    - A two server split would copy the current data to both servers so that players can eventually choose what server they wish to play on, or play on more.

    - A tutorial system will be implemented before launching on Steam.

    - Most of what is being speculated or suggested in this thread is not feasible with our current resources. The focus will be on the items already listed and the tutorial system.

    Thanks!
