I was able to get to character screen only have changing my password to contain 8 characters instead of just 6. With my orginal password I was able to get on the website and the patcher but not the game.
I havent tested it but my hunch is that the password requirements are different for the game then they are for the patcher and forums.
something to look int, but for now my personal issue seems resolved
