Noone said "roll out in force at X day and Y time" they said "We expect to open up the game at X day and Y time"; expect being the operative word.

Uhm, actually they opened up totem placement and put in new restrictions requiring tribes to get large numbers of players tagged on very short notice just in order to form a tribe. That is telling the playerbase to roll out in force on the necessary day, and that is exactly what everyone did. So you couldn't possibly be more wrong.
A chief symptom of fanboy disease is thinking that the devs somehow won't be able to get any work done if you don't police the forums and tirelessly crap on any thread registering a complaint or criticism or making a suggestion. That's really not how it works. You're not saving anyone from anything, just airing your opinion about other players, which isn't really relevant to anything.
Anyway, lag is in the 800s regardless. The question is, is there anything to do that makes it worth logging in to deal with the lag?
By roll out in force you mean have the tribe leaders/inviters show up on thursday and hang out while people filter in and out joining the tribe and then just the tribe leader needing to log in on friday to place the totem; then yeah "roll out in force".
You were giving 24 hours to form up your tribe and then 1 and only 1 player had to be on to totem.
and I think you are showing symptoms of "Hateritis" by feeling the need to hop on the forum and whine for hours on end that a game that hasn't even launch yet has features locked while the devs work on lag and bugs.

Another symptom of fanboy disease is labeling predictable criticisms and suggestions by players as "whining for hours on end". Further, fanboys tend to lose their temper after carefully reading every single complaint thread and they start to lump all the posters together in their head until, before long, they are lashing out at anyone who posts anything critical, regardless of how reasonable or timely it is.

Guys, take a few minutes and remember this is a game. Think about the folks in Japan for a while and feel lucky you are able to even have the promise of playing the game.

What I find irritating is, so many of us are just doing what the Devs are asking of us -

If totem placement is working as intended, then all the blocking of the other skills is a moot point --
Once they decide to drop the flood gate, all hell will break loose.
But if they push the release back another two weeks... Well, they probably are going to lose more than just users.
Its like a game of poker. You have to sometimes go all in, even if you might not have the best cards. But risk does pay off many times - as if you delay you might not get the chips you wanted and could of gotten, but if you go ahead you can get a nice jackpot.
I say all in, lay down those cards!

Problem is, the model appears to have some problems.
We, as the community, have made an investment in a product, where the owner and producer of that product, has not yet delivered on the scope of work.
We purchased the product understanding that it was incomplete, and lacked many of the higher tier features.
However we purchased the product with the expectation of a certain level of minimum features, and a certain timeline for those feautures being accessible.
We purchased the product with the expectation of accessing these features early.
So far, as the consumer and end user of the 'product', I can't say i'm horribly satisified.
$40 isn't gongt o kill me, and i'd just as soon see it go to a upstart indie dev...however I would really really really love for this game to be a success. There needs to be a breakout game so we, as gamers, arent stuck with merely the choice between the umpteenth WoW clone, or the ubergrind korean grindfest. Another indie dev with a phenomenal vision, another craptacular launch, another abandoned playerbase...Fanboys a mortgage wont pay.
and yes, my thoughts and prayers are with those struggling to piece shit back together in japan.
My wallet and my idle mind is on trying to kill a sunday afternoon without working in the yard.
