So you cut down a tree, chop to big logs, why can you not carry that big log to camp, and cut it down to small logs?

Agreed! It's not like you're trying to put the small logs back together to become a big log or anything ;-)
I was thinking the same thing. Even if it doesnt yield as many small logs it is still worth it.
