Totem Decay

How long can one stay unsubscribed before their totem completely decays?

3 months is when it goes poof.

I was looking for my old spot from beta. There a a lot of places that are still around and seem to have not decayed. Is it possible there are one or two people still around. Animal Crackers etc.? There just seems to be a large amount of claimed lands and building all over. . maybe the buildings should decay as well as the totem after a time?
