When you whisper something the recipient is confusing.
Say me Char1 is messaging Char2 "hello" and also sending Char3 "I need 4 stones" chat will look like;
[Char1] hello
[Char1] I need 4 stones
it would be better if it showed up as;
[Char1 to Char2] hello
[Char1 to Char3] I need 4 wood
This will help out one we start having more and more whispers but has already led to possible confusion
so you want stone to reply as wood? joke aside... i agree:)
Whispers should be separated into their own chat tabs on the chat panel, with working scroll bars of course. And right-clicking a person or their name in your social panel should bring up the option to whisper as well. That is the real way to do it.

If you don't know your own char name you have bigger problems that can't be solved by the dev team.
on a different note it seems the pattern matching for "/w" is missing a 'start of line' so it would look something like "^/w \w (.+)$". At the moment if you write "/w" anywhere in a message it screws up the message.
