You can walk through the boulders.

and they look ugly

I've only found a couple of boulders that I clipped through. In most cases collision works properly. I have noticed it's easily to clip through the smaller rocks if you're running.

I patched out updates for this over the night. If you still find large boulders with issues, please post the location here.

you can't walk on boulders did you want that to happen?

You should be able to walk on some small boulders and climb boulders that are not steep. It's based on slope.
