Drinking from buckets would make waterskins obsolete. Drinking from a barrel would be fine if the range of access to a barrel was reduced to the same range as a opening a cart or picking up a log.

I agree, drinking from a bucket would indeed make Waterskins obsolete. But drinking limited amounts of water from a Barrel seems like a grand idea!
