Launcher doesn't start the game

After installing and patching the game it doesn't launch when pressing Play Xsyon. It just hangs there and gives no clue as to what's going on. 3 processes called Xsyon.exe (32bit) are visible in task manager and a xsyon-launcher.exe. It doesn't seem to time out and a computer restart makes no difference. The launcher is using 25MB of RAM and the other 3 processes use 120kB each.

Windows 7, 64bit, i7-4790, 16GB RAM, Nvidia gtx 970.

That's strange.

Do you have the latest launcher (from your account page)?

Have you tried a full uninstall and reinstall of Xsyon? If not, please try that. Also, please make sure that DirectX 9.0c is installed through the installer.

When did you last play Xsyon without a problem? Was it on the same system or is this a new system?

Last time I logged in and played is 5-6 weeks ago with one of my accounts, don't remember which though.

First time I tried, after it went sub-free, the launcher downloaded some 40MB of data and after the patching I restarted the launcher. Hit the Play Game button and it got hung immediately.

Restarted the computer after observing the 3 processes together with the launcher process (they couldn't be shut down manually). Same thing happened again.

Uninstalled the complete game and downloaded the launcher + patched it up. Same result.

Restarted computer and hit the xsyon.exe from c:\users\public\games\xsyon\bin folder - still the same result. xsyon.exe spawns three processes with the same name that does nothing (visible) and only allocate 120kB each. Each process is tied to one thread. Starvation problem or some kind of deadlock?

The Xsyon installation show the DirectX(9) installation but I'm not sure it actually install something since the system is at v11.

So I've reinstalled the game 5 times now. I've started in steam then went to website. still this game will not work I have DirectX 9.0,and when reinstalling I deleted all files of xsyon from hard drive. when I install form website it actually works till it updates. once game updates the 2gb worth of files it gives me the option to play. I click on play then game freezes then crashes. I restart the game and forces me to patch again I don't have the option to play. when I click on patch it says that file can not be created. the reason for it being able to create a file is because there is already a file.

Final attempt: restarted computer (killed off the 3 processes) and uninstalled the game, remove folder (left by the installer), removed the launcher files, removed web-caches.

Logged on to forum and downloaded the launcher. (version from 2015-08-03, but the .exe-file is from 2015-08-04)

When running the launcher it starts up the DirectX(9) installation which installs no new files (existing files are newer). It then starts to download the 2GB of data.

Might have found the problem/solution. When disabling Avast virus protection it starts as it should.

Problemo Solveno.

Hello azzymor,

I did just see that you were successfully logged in to the Peace Server. The three 'Xsyon' processes must be something that anti-virus program was creating as only one process should launch (and running xsyon.exe from the bin directly should simply pop up a message that you need to run through the launcher). Strange, but now I know in case someone else encounters this problem.

MiniDragon, are you running the same (or another) anti-virus program? You are unable to run even from Steam, correct?

Thanks,

I was running from steam but now I am running from the website itself. I had problems from both, but I am unsure what I am to do. I am using 2 different antivirus one is the same it is Avast the other is advanced system care 8 ill try to figure out how to turn off the anti virus protection. im not sure how I do that but ill figure it out somehow.

Yes, please disable the anti-virus programs while running Xsyon and let me know if that fixes your issue (it should).

I recommend running the game through Steam if you wish to take advantage of the Steam Overlay interface.

Thanks for your patience!

unfortunately I still cant get into the game all my antiviruses are offline temporarily and still can not get into game. it continues to tell me to patch. and when I do it gives me an error saying could not create a file.

Ok. Please restart your computer and try again. The 'could not create a file' error means that a crashed version of xsyon.exe is still running (caused by the anti-virus issue).

After restarting, please try first through Steam and then the launcher. Both should work after a restart (I hope!)

Ok, thanks for all the information. Dealing with anti-virus programs is a bit tricky. I've contacted several to put xsyon on their safe lists but usually they require more reports from individual players over time. In general I recommend disabling anti-virus programs while playing (as other mmos do) as they can slow down data transfers.

Thanks again!
