Cant hit bigger bears
Some bears that are really big (usually shadow bear) you cannot hit, their hitbox seems off i can only hit it if i run inside it an attack its feet.

you can hit bigger bears at their sides.

I dont know its intentional or not but their heads get in the way of you hitting them, by design or flaw I dont know.
Anyway for the really big bears I run round at them at their sides.

there is a vid on the steam xyson community page showing how i do it, its a way not the best way, but a way

All hitboxes will be revised as part of the upcoming creature revisions.
