Terraforming Project Tool
A Grid based terrform tool that might make leveling easier

Leveling terrain is difficult. So I am wondering if it would be possible to set up a tool that lays down a grid for making level terrain. It could just be simple square the player can expand or contract. Other shapes like circles or triangles could be selectable. The center of the project would be the point it uses for leveling any differences greater or less than .50 (maybe .40?) would require you to raise or lower the terrain as needed, still requiring dirt. After the project is set the player will have to click each individual grid and use the appropriate action to change the elevation to match the center point.

I would love to see something like the way Wurm does it. With Wurm you have the grid, But there you can see the elevation of each corner. By working the corners. You can make it flat 1.5, 1.5, 1.5, 1.5, or if making a path up a hill you would do something like this. top two corners 2.5, 2.5 and then at the bottom 1.0, 1.0 It makes it where you can really lay your home land out the way you want it.

But I don't think it can happen with the way they made the world, Don't think it would let us do grid terraforming.

Well the world is made up of tiles, so it could work in some kind of fashion.

I agree, leveling out terrain is too much of a fine art so any assistance would be helpful.

An alternate Salem the Game client has a tool that shows height for leveling...makes a grid colors show what is high or low...

I think the current leveling system is fine and once you understand how it works very easy to use. Just takes time.

If they do anything that makes it faster, they can simply cut the time it takes to do actions, or maybe have faster tools, or larger area effecting tools.

I think they should tell you before you do an action, this will make the land this level by clicking this button. And you should be able to set the exact number you want the land, lowering will put sand in your bin, higher will require sand, leveling flat I want specified at the number I tell it to go. It's all guessing work and even figuring out the system it's still needs attention.

Before I knew how to level and make multi stories, I would have loved to see something like this implemented.

Now I understand terraforming, it should remain the same but take less time, it took me 2 days to level a homestead for the first time.. where as building the buildings takes less than 1 day.

My opinion is that it need some workout. The issue of being griefed by other people using terra-forming is something that we can avoid by limiting the height of the ground people can raise base on their level, for example for skill lv 25 we cannot raise the "slope" too high that people cannot jump over or climb.
This idea is being used in Wurm and it turn out to be so efficient that there is no need to limit people's terra-forming skill in their own tribe, which also lead to huge awesome project such as canals, tunnels and mountainous road.
Also, their dirt weights relatively heavy, so nobody can easily carry them without a cart, and it is in fact realistic.
Instead of just making it easier, why dont we change it completely?
In short, my opinion is: harder terraforming for newbie and low skill players, quicker for the labor forces, the professional players.

If you have ever seen a guide terraform, the game is already programed to terraform large areas at once... I think the skill vs area idea is a spot on must have...

I have been an advocate of the visible grid forever, but certain players will always shoot it down, it like there mission to not make things easy and laborious...

And yes its easy to Terraform once you know it just takes way to damn long..

Lordadamar current terraforming is easy, it just takes time. If you lower the time required to terraform you will see huge mounts of dirt and large multistory buildings all over the place. Lowering the true wonderous effects of someone or a group of people doing these things. The worth and wonder would be gone.

I look at mindcraft and I see it a lot where people build things in a day and few people care. Then you look at the HUGE cities that take months to build in minecraft and they are truly wonderous. However, unlike mindcraft you are limited in how much area you can build on, there is a reason for this too.

I'm ok with making things easier, but you also should have a cost to that. Like higher skills, costly tools etc. Which make trade and progression for toon building.

Giving everyone guide power terraforming options would cause the world to look horrid and take a lot of the wonder out of the game.
