Hmm seems like this might have been directly related to the change of seasons. When i crashed and came back into game, there was less and less snow each time, now there's no snow and i don't seem to be crashing at all.

I'll update the thread at end of day if there are no more crashes.

Guess the seasons change wasnt the issue. Still crashed many times, though not your typical crash. The game would become unresponsive after the error window pops up, not allowing me to re-enter however the music still plays in the background and my desktop becomes unresponsive, almost like the game is still there. My cursor even has the xsyon arrowhead graphic.

In order to fix the issue i have to start task manager and manually select xsyon via the arrow keys and choose Alt+E to close it down.

Hello Strands,

The crash you're experiencing is a very old recurring issue that's still on our list. I personally can't reproduce it. At one point I could and I fixed the cause for some players, but other players continued to get this problem.

The possibility that the season could be part of the cause is something I will look into this week. It's not an easy one to solve since it's a core DirectX rendering issue and could be dependent and influenced by many local factors (other programs running, graphics drivers, etc.). Some players get this and others like myself can alt-tab repeatedly without a problem.

I would like some further information to help try to track this down yet again.

1) Can you give me an exact location where you are crashing?

2) Does it seem to be location based for you, or does it not matter? (For example, does it happen in a forest area or looking at the lake just as easily as it does in the middle of a large tribe area?)

3) Do you crash every time you alt-tab or is it random? If random, how often? (1 out of two times? 1 out of 10?)

I would really love to finally put this one to rest.

Thanks!

Today like the past 5 or 6 months I've been able to play full screen and use Alt+Tab without crashing, before that I played windowed like most others as I crashed every time I used Alt+tab.

Specs:

Vista HP 64 (SP2)
2.5 Ghz Core2 Quad
4 Gb RAM
1 Gb Geforce GT 430 (driver 355.82)
DirectX 11

Are you guys using Windblows 10 by any chance, people have found that it replaces their drivers with it's own crap drivers.

Thanks for the replies guys, glad to see its not just me.

Xsyon: It may be the season change or possibly something to do with rain. I just came back to game and rain was also new to me yesterday after maint.

In regards to your questions:
1.) Zone 980 in and around my homestead of POS: 667/744 LakeShore PEACE Server.
2.) Location or direction of character view doesn't seem to be a part of the issue as far as i can tell.
3.) Its random. I would say 1 out of 5 times would be accurate.

Bejay:
Thanks for the response, Ive gone windowed mode to help workaround the issue for now. I am using windows 10 though im not sure how to check which drivers are being utilized. Do you have any more info regarding the windows 10 overriding drivers?

With the amount of external guides and maps its an annoyance during gameplay. I do appreciate you looking into the matter Xsyon. I'll just kick it in windowed mode for now.

My Specs:
OS Name Microsoft Windows 10 Home 64-bit
Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i3-4130 CPU @ 3.40GHz, 3400 Mhz, 2 Core(s), 4 Logical Processor(s)
Nvidia GeForce GTX 750 TI
8 MB RAM
DirectX Version: 12

Do you guys play through Steam only or the launcher? I'd like both of you (Strands, sMartins) to connect to the Test Server and see if you crash the same way there.

Let me know. If you play only through Steam, I will set up access to the Test Server through a special build there.

Thanks!

I play through Steam and I don't know how to connect to the Test Server. Let me know how to do that.

P.S. Moreovere, if I use the windowed mode...it doesn't cover all the Screen (i'm playing in 1920x1080), lt's say it cover 70-80% of the screen...It could be nice if you could make it to cover all the screen, and maybe also with borderless...if it's possible. Thank you.

Ok. To access the Test Server through Steam:

Go to the Xsyon - Prelude page in your Library.
Right click Xsyon - Prelude from the list and select Properties from the pop up menu.
Select the BETAS tab
From the first drop down, select 'test - Test Server'
Enter 'xsyontestserver' as your beta access code.

This should update the game and when you next launch it you will connect to the Test Server. The Test Server data is not current and is a copye of the Peace Server from a week or two ago. (I update it every few weeks or when needed).

To switch back to the regular build, go to the BETAS tab again and select NONE - Opt out of all beta programs.

Hi Xyson,

I play through the standard launcher. Test Server Results:

Zone: 937 POS 684/778 Fullscreen: 1680x1050 @60hz

Attempt: Time (PST): Character Facing: # of Times Alt+Tab: Error?:
1 9:30 AM North 1 Y
2 9:33 AM North 5 Y
3 9:37 AM North 1 Y
4 9:40 AM North 20 N
West 20 N
East 20 N
South 20 N
5 10:00 AM North 20 N
West 20 N
East 20 N
South 20 N

Capped Alt+Tab attempts at 20.

Analysis:
My first three log ins all resulted in the error window popping up and a manual shutdown via task manager to be used. 2nd log in i was able to switch to desktop and back 5 times before error.

My 4th and 5th log ins had no issues. I was able to switch to desktop no matter where my character was facing in game.

I've been getting this error since Monday. Do not play through Steam. Play in full screen.

It's a particularly nasty crash since the error window keeps focus. Was able to clear by signing out of Windows 10.

Was just on Test Server and did not crash after a few dozen Alt-Tabs.

After few Test, didn't tried Test Server yet, the crash while Alt+Tab seems to be random....it seems during the season changing it happened often but it could be only a coincidence. I'll try the Test Server as soon a i can.

If possible i ask you to take a look at the Windowed mode...and make that the window it shows could be the full size of the screen, now for me it is only abou 70% of my screen and i cannot resize it. Cheers

Ok, I've set up a new Test build (through the launcher only for now). If any of you playing through the launcher can reproduce this crash now on the Test Server, please let me know the exact pop up message.

The previous reported message (Error Creating Mesh Vertex Buffer: CreateRectVBOffset) has to do with rendering the Map Panel, so I'm assuming that crashes happen only with the map panel open. I've added additional information to messages at that location.

For all players that can reproduce this crash, please try Alt-Tabbing with the Map Panel closed and let me know if you still crash (and if so, what message do you get).

I was able to crash only once in the past two days, alt-tabbing hundreds of times, connected to the Test Server and Peace Server. So I know it can happen, but it's very difficult for me to reproduce.

Thanks!

First try on the Test Server:

Map Panel Closed

Error Creating Mesh Vertex Buffer: CreateRectVBOffset

Then i have done some dozens of alt+tabbing with map panel opened and closed and i haven't had more crashes.

I've uploaded a new Test Build through Steam now. If you can crash again, please post the message (again). It's really odd that it would crash with the Map Panel closed but that could be a clue to help me finally resolve this.

Also, regarding windowed mode, what is your screen resolution and what is the game resolution?

Thanks!

1920x1080 both, it could be great if you could make the window match the screen. I'll try the new Test Server as soon as i can. Cheers
