More Developers

Ok so here we go, I know Jordie is doing his best and is doing a good
job with Xsyon but I feel that we really do need some more developers
around here to help with the development of this game.

I am by no means a new player around here I have been here since
2012 and have long supported Xsyon.

I think that if we could see some more new features in this game
that some of the tribes which are on "tribe time" may actually
come back and there would be more people interested in Xsyon
if they knew that there were patches coming out on a more
regular basis.

The initial release date for this game was March 2011 as per
Google.

https://www.google.ca/search?source=....0.nyU9x2tUG8g

Initial release date: March 15, 2011

This project needs some volunteers to step forward to help with some
coding and speed things up with this project.

I have seen posts before stating that there were other developers in the past
helping Xsyon but I am unsure as to what happened to all of them.

https://www.reddit.com/r/MMORPG/comm...s_about_xsyon/

" It's an indie game (with potentially the same 4 developers it used to have)"

Right now it appears that the only developer left is Jordie the head developer
for Xsyon.

I think though that this game has actually lost a lot of players over the years
due to the slow development and out of shear fustration over the lack of movement
in this game.

Please Jordie consider taking on some people to help you even if they volunteer
and are professional developers themselves. I am sure this game must have a few
other developers out there that would be willing to help a project like this along.

The game itself is fantastic and I like where it is going it would just be nice if
the game could get a few more big updates out to keep it moving a bit faster
in the right direction.

I really would like to see this game succeed and I do not want to see this
game die like so many others.

Thank you,

If I could afford to hire more developers, I would already do so, of course!

I'm always open to volunteers. However, I am admittedly cautious. I've worked with volunteers in the past who despite having good intentions only slowed down development.

As I said Volunteers maybe people that already play this game that are also developers
that would like to see this project succeed.

Wow you rejected this suggestion you shouldn't be so quick to simply reject it

I believe if Xsyon work on his own term he would do a much more work, with Volunteers is like this for example: in Destiny four people are grouped-up enter a world and then they are all scattered doing their own thing, if you pay people which of coarse Xsyon can't at the moment, have to do what they are tasked to do, Volunteers are free lancers.

LOL Jordie can not do all of this himself which is why there needs to be more developers
on this project people get fustrated with the lack of progress and just leave
the game!

If there was MORE developers on this project there would be more progress being made

Also if you read my message before you would see I clearly said VOLUNTEERS who
would like to see this project succeed so they would not be paid anything.

There are plenty of other developers out there and I am sure a few that actually
play this game.

The last major patch on this game really was 2014 when they came out with
Farming and Food, Hunger etc.

https://www.xsyon.com/entry.php/104-...tes-08-25-2014

It has been at least 3 years now since there has been any kind of
major release!

You have no clue what you are talking about znaiika please get a clue before you
respond.

This game will NEVER complete unless he gets some help around here to speed things

People just get pissed off or bored and leave the game due to the lack of development.

I really hope Jordie reconsiders this and gets some help on this game and working with
other developers and accepting their input about this game.

This game was released March 2011 and we are now coming up on 7 years this March (2018)
and the game is absolutely no where close to being complete.

It is quite clear that Jordie needs to consider getting some help form some other folks too
he can not do it all himself!

I think though that maybe Jordie doesn't play nice with other developers as well
from some stuff I have seen out there.

https://aliksteel.wordpress.com/2011...torious-games/

(January 6 2011)

"As I announced the launch nearly a year ago we suddenly realized that what appeared to
working well on the surface was riddled with problems. The original programmers were
replaced and the bulk of these past 9 months has been spent in rewriting major portions
of the code with a revolving set of coders. Most of the programming this year has been
handled by myself and one other programmer."

http://store.steampowered.com/news/?...ate=1451635200

"To give an idea of the magnitude of this task, the systems being revised and replaced were
originally coded (primarily) by four other programmers. This included a complete overhaul
by two programmers to the AI, positioning and combat system several years ago."

I want to see this game succeed but the project itself is way way too big for just
one person to code the whole thing! He can't code the whole project himself so saying
that you think that Jordie would get more done coding it himself is absolutely absurd.

I will make my this response as clear as possible.

- If I could afford to hire more developers I would. Of course!

- I am always open to working with volunteers. Of course!

- I am cautious, however. I have worked with volunteers in the past, often. As I stated above, I've worked with volunteers in the past who despite having good intentions only slowed down development.

Here were some of the issues:

-- Znaiika is correct. Most volunteers want to do their own thing. Rather than assist with tasks at hands, many volunteers wanted to work on systems or features that they were interested in or provide design ideas rather than work on what I could really use help with.

-- Getting a programmer up to speed with the code takes time, my time. Paid programmers typically took a month to study the game engine before jumping in to the code. Volunteers could take a lot longer than that.

-- Working on the code for a game like this is a lot more complex than most volunteer programmers expected. By the time a volunteer programmer understood what it took usually they realized they didn't have the time to really help me make any progress.

-- Volunteers typically aren't going to be experts. Usually volunteers were learning more than contributing.

-- Volunteer artists have been different as creating artwork is more straightforward. A few players have helped add a bit of art to the game and I greatly appreciate their help!

-----------------------------------

- I mark suggestions as 'accepted' as a reminder for implementation and to let players know about things that I already plan to put in game.

- I mark suggestions as 'acknowledged' as a future reminder for me to take a second look as the game develops and evolves.

- I marked this suggestion as 'rejected' for this reason: Your suggestion is not a recommendation for me to do anything different than what I am already doing. I am open to volunteers. I don't have the ability to pull effective and efficient volunteer developers out of thin air.

- If I marked this suggestion as 'implemented' which may be more accurate (since it simply reflects what I already do - work with volunteers if they offer help) players may get the impression that I've taken on new volunteers or increased the development team, which is not the case.

-----------------------------------

- The last 'major update' was not in 2014 by any means. In 2015 I introduced the current construction system along with building uses. These were major changes to the game. In 2016 I received an injury that had recurring effects until the end of 2017. I noted this in my updates but did not make a huge deal of it as I continued to update the game.

- In 2016 and 2017 I patched major revisions to server and client despite my injury. These may not have included new features or content but were huge changes requiring a lot of work nevertheless. I replaced old systems with new better optimized systems. Server restarts for example now take 10 - 15 minutes instead of hours. Regular server freezes are resolved. I implemented data gathering systems that allow me to gain much better insight into what players are doing (or not doing) in game. The sheer amount of construction in game, while it still causes low frame rate for some players, would be impossible to maintain with the game code from 2015.

- A few things are left before I remove Xsyon from 'Early Access':

- Pets and mounts are fully implemented. (In current development)
- Player suggested improvements are implemented (around 50 suggestions complete but not released)
- Ranged combat is released.
- Achievements are implemented. (50% complete)
- Systems are improved and balanced based on player feedback (final step before removing Early Access)
- The expanded landscape (9 times the current world size) is ready for public release. (75% complete - may not release this until later)

-----------------------------------

DarkShado - this is your final warning and I am making this public.

There is no place on this forum for personal insults such as 'You have no clue what you are talking about znaiika please get a clue before you respond.' or to call someone's opinion 'absolutely absurd'. Suggestions are open for discussion but not a place to incite personal arguments.

You claim you want to see the game 'succeed', yet you seem determined to drain as much of my time as possible. Whether intentional or not you have been inciting arguments with other players causing issues in game and now on these forums. Please stop.

Thank you
