Log Out Timer

Log Out Timer
Needed

There needs to be an amount of time your character stays logged in and is still interactable with when someone logs off. Its unfair to someone who goes through all the trouble of tracking down a player getting him almost dead and they just log off for invincibility to save their items.

Yep, I think both a log out timer.
And a combat log out timer. Which should be longer.

So maybe like 30 seconds for normal log out.
2 mins for logging out while in combat. (Or shortly after combat)

Many MMO's that have any kind of PVP have these things.

I could go either way on this one. My feeling is that, yes, something like this is needed to prevent exploits like what was mentioned but, at the same time, I'd hate to loose my stuff because my ISP happened to have a down during my fight. I know that the former is usually pretty rare these days for MY ISP but I'm not so certain about other's ISPs. I think that a good comprimise here would be instantaneous log out for normal, non-combat (or recent combat) and 30 seconds for recent combat. 30 seconds is STILL plenty of time for a PK, IMO.

I think it should be instant if you are in your tribe area only! 30 seconds for anything else combat, or out in the middle of nowhere period(.)

Most games have a combat log out timer for PVP, to prevent it being used as an exploit. 30s isnt long at all for a log out timer. It should be longer. Like 1 or 2 mins if in combat.

What if new player trying to escape a vet griefer, and it happens when new player return from trading, he won't have a chance to stand against well setup player.
It is nothing more then another way to grief.
I am sorry to say this, but no.

Huh?

So, if ANY player is getting attacked (new or old) thats not griefing. If they log out insta in the middle of a fight, then the insta log out is being abused and exploiting. If anyone would be griefing it would be the person logging out not the attacker.

So I'm confused in what you are talking about.

If you feel that new players need more protections that another topic. This is about logging out in the middle of combat insta to avoid being looted or killed. Which is an exploit.
How to fix that exploit?
Most games add a combat log out timer so if you are in combat, you cant insta log out.
This game even says it will take 30seconds to log out yet it doesnt work. (Bugged)

If old player "vet" is attacking new player? that is grief, so extending timer on log-out is making things easier for grieffer not for new player.

About other games? most games have PVP zones and a timer to log-out is mostly 15 seconds and in side PVP zones.

Its not griefing to kill someone. I think thats your problem. You have a warped sense of what griefing is. There is PVP in this game you should get used to it.
Killing another player isnt griefing. Old player killing a new player isnt griefing, nor is a new player killing an old player.
The age of the player is not a factor of what griefing is.

Can you tell me what PVP game has a 15second log out timer?

If someone runs away? I'm very sure he doesn't want to fight, and if other player still chasing? that means grief.

FE.

Chasing a player isnt griefing.

Yep, and they are complaining about it there.

This video is too old (Nov 18, 2009) you should try that now.
Log-off is interrupter by movement and damage now.

Sounds good for me.
Damage stopping the log out would fix the problem, again please name 1 PVP game where there is a 15s combat logout timer?

(Thanks for helping prove my point, so you just picked a game when I asked you for a 15s combat timer that isnt the way you say it is, and supports my thoughts on it, I love these types of debates)

I am sorry if you didn't understand what I was saying, FE is one of them.
If Xsyon switch to PVP zones and the rest of the world is safe, or if you you flag your self for PVP, then logging-off can be 15 seconds and interrupter, i won't have problem with that.
But with this system, logging-off is fine, no need for changes.
Or it will become haven for grieffers.

You just said FE doesn't have a 15second log out timer. Because if you get hit in combat, it restarts the timer. If Xsyon had this system for combat, I would like that also.

This is PVP zones with rest of the world is safe. If you dont want PVP stay in the safe areas.

How is it a heaven for griefers if there is a log out timer? Right now its being abused by griefers they can insta log out to avoid the punishment of death and being looted.

You really need to understand that killing someone in game doesnt mean its griefing. Pretty much everything you say because you cant understand that means you cant carry on thoughts with anything else about it.

Go read the terms of that griefing is in Xsyon, and other PVP games. Killing another player is NOT griefing its normal play. Sounds to me like you shouldnt be playing Xsyon. This is about the 20th time someone has told you, and you still dont understand it. Even guides have told you this.

Killing someone that is equal to your challenge is not a grief, I call grief when you kill someone way below your level and he is trying to stay away from conflict.

Can you name one guide who told me that?

If you want to talk about what griefing is, you are free to make another thread, or even a suggestion or ask the devs in the Q&A. Try to focus on the topic here.

Znaiika seriously you have no clue. Griefing to me is when a player A) Repeatedly camps someone in their safe area not letting them leave for extended periods of time, B) Kills the same player repeatedly, etc etc... Please remember this is a survival game.

So if 3 players attack me, I will try to run or fight, if they kill me I do not think I got griefed, I think I was in the wrong place at the wrong time. If I catch someone scavenging and they are in no armor and keeping light and I kill them, that is not griefing either.

Regardless of what is and is not griefing, a timer still needs to be in place.

While we are are talking about the log out timer it would be nice to have a way to cancel it if we want. i find myself hitting it by mistake every so often and would like a way to cancel it.

If you're in combat you shouldn't be able to log until the either combat is completed or you manage to escape. Also griefing new players could be controlled with some protection of noobs and their inventory. It's only becomes grief if the victim is constantly camped and harassed out of the game, but I think this community would band together to hunt them down so maybe the problem would solve it self.
