The ways he explains it yes. However if an opportunity comes by where the tribe can easily take an resource and resell or mine it, this would still still be what a merc does.

However going months without contract, so you can train is indeed not the merc way.

Mercs shouldn't go around taking things from others unless they're paid to do it.It's just unprofessional.

Why don't you join a neutral tribe and build a group within them?
Or possibly bind to certain tribes.
