Re:The big list of refinements for the UI

Though I support it all, Chat & Chat Box support emphasis since its something that I deal with every moment of play.

Since chat text is so washed out, light and not quite noticeable enough, here's to hoping in one of the updates along with the other UI adds, that text size, color and chat box transparency is in.

I do not expect those things to make it in.
I'm just trying to contribute and be helpful, but I understand that some apparently minor polish really requires a great deal of work...
I hope that at least about half those things will be solved.

Great list. Only thing I can think to add is adding a choice to make the mouse cursor larger/different color/etc. Might be that my vision sucks (ironic, since I'm basically an eyeball specialist), but it would certainly be helpful. Those sudden snowstorms turn Xsyon into Where's Waldocursor for me.

Re:The big list of refinements for the UI

Tool tips are a must for most of the icons on the UI, espically the 8 different status indicators.

    O-M-G
beeing a developer too in other contexts
I'm not sure if I should say: YES, this is the kind of user we need, he has pretty and useful ideas and all makes sense, or: OOOH NOO, when shall we poor hand full of people all do this? ....

EDIT: the following text is meant as an answer to your question about the reaction of the devs ("YES" or "OOOH NOO")

I got an answer from Jordi, it's awesome how much attention the devs are giving to the community!

The message starts with greetings and such and then this piece:

Regarding camera movement, have you tried the different camera modes? They are accessed by using the HOME key and have different behavior.
I found this out yesterday and was like "awww..." silly me
So, some things were always in there, it's me who didn't know about them.

    The message continues:

I’ve already implemented some of your suggestions for the next update (many of these were already planned), which I hope will be ready next week.

    Thanks,

    Jordi
I posted it here to share it with all of you, because I think it is a very good indication of what is going on these days... The busy devs are working hard!

There were no updates/patches for a while now, but it seems it will all come out together in a greater batch-patch :woohoo:

Re:The big list of refinements for the UI

I have come across another thing that might be important:

Right now we have coordinates and the Z coordinate is useful to terraform a perfectly clean surface (with the level terrain action used how celectial explained in a picture and video).

When snow is on the ground (but I assume even without snow) it is sometimes IMPOSSIBLE to tell if a surface is perfect or has a +/-0.10 height. It simply is not visible (but it has effect on log placing and such). I surprised myself watching steadily on the Z coordinate while walking/mustering the terrain to get those tiny bumps out.

Once the coords are removed, how are we supposed to do that? Maybe the Z coordinate does not give much away and it could stay? maybe even on the terraforming window instead of the toolbar, so that it is visible only when needed!?

Maybe this precision is not necessary and I'm exaggerating with trying to learn the craft of terraforming...

    I don't know, was just a thought.

Filthy liar! I told you about camera modes 6 days ago. You even acknowledged it.

I agree about the likely need for a way to measure terrain heights. I mean, I suppose we could get by on eyeballing it but it would drive the obsessive types like myself nuts. I once wanted to raise an entire size 10 deed by 4 dirts to cover up one vertex where we dug to rock in Wurm. You could barely notice it but I knew it was there and I hated it.

But maybe that sort of geometric perfection won't be needed by Xsyon. Still I would like more tools so we can shape things the way we want. Even if you don't need large flat areas for building like in Wurm having more flexible tools could result in some pretty creative projects.

    Loading times

Initial loading times are far too long. Especially "base trees" lasts too long. if there is a way, try to do this in the background while the game already is running. or at least provide a progress bar.
I've been playing this game for a while now and have yet to have this issue. I don't think it's ever taken longer than a minute for my game to load, but you're not the first person I have seen post about this problem.......weird. Maybe your internet connection? idk

I do agree with most of the other things in this list. Not all of them respectfully. I don't want this game to have everything every other MMO out there has. I want this game to be unique but things like fixing the chat menu and tooltips are a must.
