yes, I create the tribe. my friend created a char I added it and then he deleted and we repeated until he created his last char to keep.

His name is Odie and said it shows him as the owner of the tribe.

So were you adding characters to the tribe charter (before you place the totem), then deleting and adding a new character?

So when you formed the tribe there were only 2 actual existing characters?

We added them before we planted the totem. So in the end we had three deleted chars and two real chars in the tribe and then planted the totem.
