well if the sun actually rises in the east and sets in the west you could always base your directions off of that depending on the time of day.
Not sure if it does though, havent looked at it that much.

I am not 100% sure but I believe it is true that everything rises in the east and sets in the west. When its night tho, you are on your own with celestial navigation (yes the stars do move, but i am not sure if the vary by season and day in a cyclic fashion; need more observation.).
