Wouldn't the shadows being on high effect the FPS? I dunno, I turned that stuff off a week into playing.
As for checking FPS, I do not think there is an in game approach for this. (Atleast it hasn't been communicated). 3rd party apps can tell you what the FPS is for your game. I think the most common one used is FRAPS.

Ok just checking. I swore running fraps can lower your fps by 10+ so was checking if there was a built in FPS toggle I missed. Thanks.

If you are recording, yes, you will see a drop. But just have the program running and not recording will tell you your current FPS rate.

I have a similar system, but seeing higher frame rates. With your given settings/resolution I'm hard pressed to drop below 45FPS with 8X AA and VSync(60FPS). (Vsync off 50-100FPS@ your settings) Q9550@3.4/GTX470@725/8Gig
