No, this game is not like Shadowbane.

Be also advised that the game is still heavily in development - useful PvP (sieges, contest of territory) is still months away.

This game is NOT like ANYTHING ever played before. Just as a for instance, you can terraform and build your own area. Be that area for yourself (homesteader) or a very large clan is totally up to you. Buildings can be built and are unique per builder.

One large thing you will find very different is that there is no 'money' in game. Nor are there any NPC to sell/buy from. More or less is a barter system. IE someone has a tool I need, Maybe they will take something I can craft in 'trade' This brings to mind a lot of new player apprehensions when it comes to a person thinking (but my new stuff isnt of a quality anyone wants) Ok understandable. ALL have to eat however. How about trading some food from fishing or gathering?

Really is a ground breaking concept. Truly Unique.

    Greetings,

(please forgive my bad english, french player here)

Just discovered the existence of this game. Features seems very attractive. Before spending the 40$, i would really like to know if the game is nice to play. I mean, is it style like a beta, or can you enjoy some greats moments, and build your house, craft your things.

I heard it has a very low population too....

Should i buy ? I am searching for years something close to SWG gameplay where you interact with the world, play without fighting...

    Thanks.

    Salut Slopknight,

Yes, the population is a bit lower than one might expect for an MMO, but it's a good community and questions in game are welcomed and answered. It is not a ghost town

The interaction with the world is great I think. You can manipulate the entire landscape to your needs for your home with a good shovel (except granite ). The architecture pieces allow for a lot of variation and personalization. Unlike SWG, houses are not pre-packaged here. You imagine it, you build it.

As an example, say you want a log home of some kind. You'll need to cut down a tree for the wood, so you'll need to build or trade an axe. You will see the tree actually fall and change the landscape. Then you may need a saw and planer to work the wood. You will need to trade or build those tools. You will need to scavenge on trash piles for nails, bolts, etc. or trade. Brick roof? Wood roof? Grass roof? Hardwood floor or stone? The crafting can get very involved. Weapons, armor... all with smaller components needed and various qualities.

There is, of course, grinding to get to the levels you will want but I don't find it bad. A little of this, a little of that.

In terms of fighting, it is reasonable right now as there are not many people. The population will grow so hard to know what the future will bring. Anyone can attack you anywhere except for your own land which is a circle of 25m radius. I would say PvP is present for those who want to seek it out, but I can enjoy the game peacefully 99% of the time right now which is great.

I know some people say this is still Beta. I have played Betas. This is not Beta. These days people confuse Beta with Demo, so they think continuing development must mean Beta. Yes, much development continues, and will continue, so there are bugs... but the game is very, very playable and enjoyable.

This is not Blizzard or Bioware but that's also what allows it to be unique in many respects.

    1. The game is very nice to play, has lots of features but also has just as many features not in game yet - but is very much a work in progress.
    2. Go look at the updates archive pages and you will see that they constantly keep their members up to date and have a good track record for releasing 1-3 patch's a month. (even right now as I type this the server is down for a decent size patch that's adding tree planting, seed gathering and animals that can mutate to become stronger and harder to kill)
    3. You can build your house and the crafting system is almost overwhelming in the amount of items you can craft and gather.
    4. The population is low, especially for an mmo - however if you can get past that and keep in mind that some very exciting things are around the corner like zombies that can attack you, loot you, and use your armor and weapons against you.
    5. This is not a game where you can play without fighting, you can set down a territory for yourself or join up with an existing tribe. (the game is designed to give you more territory based on your tribe's total members - there's some factors that determine how you can upgrade your territory size but you can expand your borders)
    6. Inside your territory is a safe zone from other players, they cannot attack you inside your territory - however animals, mutants, and zombies when they get added are able to roam into your territory and attack you at any time.
    7. Everything outside your territory is FFA pvp and is currently full loot - however once the alignment system is put in there will be restrictions on how much you can loot from a player. (alignment will be based on good, neutral, and evil - only evil can full loot, but evil alignment allows anyone to attack you without consequence - however this feature is not in game yet)

there are a few trolls that haunt this forum and I imagine for every point I just listed they will give you some negative about what I said - if you really want to know for yourself you'll just have to get the game and find out if it's something you will like.

I don't do much PvP, so I won't comment on combat, but the crafting in this game is superb!

There are plenty of different areas to specialise in, a vast array of recipes to find through salvaging, or be "inspired" to discover whilst crafting. The crafts themselves are very well thought out, with built in dependencies on other crafts, so you need to decide whether to invest time in another crafting or resource gathering area, or whether to trade for parts that you need. The item and resource inventory is huge - I currently have only 100 out of 303 Tool Recipes that I could gain, and that is just the tools used to do the crafting - saws, pliers, shears, hammers, chalk, rulers and the like.

I found myself quite able to make a nice, if poor quality, leather outift early on, but developing my skills to be able to create that same outfit of a Master Quality is going to take some time, and there are so many designs to choose from its easy to get distracted.

I've been playing a few weeks, and although I had no intention of building originally, I just decided to build my own place, and was surprised to find the architecture profession interesting and rewarding too - if very time-consuming. Some of the structures people have built are awe-inspiring to say the least.

Having said all that, this is a true sandbox game, so there is no hand-holding, no NPCs to tell you what to do, no quest-givers or story-lines at all. You decide what you want to do, and do it. If you lack imagination, then this probably isn't the game for you.

Finally, people are correct when they say that the game is still being developed, but that is not in the sense that it is still in Beta Testing, more in the sense that the developers have a very grand vision for the game, and they are slowly implementing it. So there are parts of that vision that aren't there yet, but they are patching new content pretty much every week, and moving slowy and surely towards it.

I just can't wait to see how this game develops.

Greetings everyone. Eyesgood here, coming to visit from Wurm Online where I have played almost daily for over 2.5 years. I love crafting and I love the sandbox MMO genre. I just have a question for any of you that have played this game and left Wurm. How does the depth of crafting in this game compare to the depth of crafting in Wurm? Is it (right now) as deep as Wurm or approaching or has it exceeded it already? Also, are multiple characters allowed for the basic account or are you limited to just a single toon per account? Finally, is there any tunneling or caving in this game like there is in Wurm?

Thanks in advance to anyone knowledgeable enough to answer my questions. I am contemplating giving this game a try, but I have a LOT of time and money invested in Wurm and it would really take a diamond in the rough to pull me from it.
