If this looks ok I plan to add an adjustable ambient light setting.
I know for sure that in a often cited MMO that launches soon night was exaggeratedly dark, up to the point you couldn't see anything at all at night.
To be honest, I liked it... but then I read that some ppl hacked it, so it became a handicap. I don't know what they did after this, but gameplay elements like these need to be hack-proof (completely switch off rendering, not just the light source) or prevent the need to hack it...
The idea of adjustable light might be okay (on low luminosity many monitors behave odd and differently, so this is very difficult to calibrate).
But, on the other hand, I might suggest that "night" still has a huge impact on gameplay (it simply "feels" right that day and night change things).
Some skills could be handicapped (much like in WoW or DDO you can be "blinded" or "drunk"). A status like "Nighttime: vision dependent skills have a -6 malus" or so. And when the moon is high "Moonlight: vision dependent skills have a -3 malus".
tl;dr: night influence on gameplay is important, keep it in, but avoid blackening out everything.
