See you list all these reason you want..but what are they really? You are still leaving the open question, "Why?".

Why wear good armor? So you can kill animals without getting mauled. But then animals need to be tougher. And now you are stuck in a circle. Hunt animals to get better armor..to hunt bigger animals..to get better armor. In the end its exactly the same as before: doing something for no other reason than to be able to do more of the same thing. Just one example.

You also want a reason to travel around for resources or control areas that have those resources. Okay, what reason would be satisfactory? What do you want those special resources to do? The only reason I can think of is to be able to craft better stuff...but then why do you want to craft better stuff? To better hunt those animals from before?

You need to give examples of what you want to happen if someone chooses to or not to partake in these game systems.

Personally, I'm more concerned with having reasons for implementing various game systems, like the new skill/stat system Why do we need to be limited in our skills and stats. Are the current set of skills so wonderful and amazing that noone should have them all or at least a large set of them? Being able to craft cloth, grass, and leather armors is such a huge advantage...oh wait, you just said above that armor is useless. So theres 300 points used up on fairly useless skills..I feel so uber.

You ever play any other games?

You start out with killing easy stuff (stuff you can do naked), then you level up your skills and you start getting better armor. Now you can do harder stuff, which gives you more skills and better armor.
It is a circle its common sense circle. I dont expect to go kill Mutant Bears with found leather armor sets. Yet, I can do it just fine.
